Update from Ellie

WHATS UP SCHOLARS?!?!
Ca va?! Bonjour from Toulouse, France. I have been here for about a month and a half now and it has been great! I am living with a host family a little bit outside of the center city. The culture here is WAY different than I expected. I thought that it would be very easy because the US and Europe are so similar, but I was VERY wrong. Smiling is considered weird here, totally opposite from New Orleans. Also, the food is COMPLETELY different. I have been spoiled by the fresh food here, it is incredible! All local and all organic- its been great. My program is called Language, Community and Social Change, and the social change aspect is really interesting. I am working with a food bank located in the center city. This food bank provides food for people who are unemployed, but it isn’t your average food bank. There is foie gras, tons of fancy cheeses, strawberries imported from morocco, crepes… the list goes on. At the front of the food bank, there is a small kitchen and I help prepare healthy meals that can be made from all ingredients found in the food bank. It has been such a great experience and I am thrilled that I get to work here. (Sorry for my incoherent English, this whole learning french thing has EXHAUSTED my ability to speak any language haha.)
I miss you all and I hope that you are making the best of this semester! I miss NOLA like crazy.
Bisous!!! (xox)
