Community Service Scholars Program
The Community Service Scholars Program (est. 2007) is a leadership in service program with a four year renewable tuition scholarship for incoming Tulane freshman. The scholars program is a supportive network that encourages these students in being actively engaged in community concerns and developing their leadership skills.
The Tulane University Community Service Scholars Program is for incoming freshmen who performed exceptional community service in high school and commit to continued service during their college experience and developing their leadership abilities. Supported by the Center for Public Service and the Admissions office, the Community Service Tuition Scholarship is renewable for four years and provides $20,000 in support to recipients who demonstrate a commitment to community service and fulfill the program requirements. Recipients should be motivated and dependable students with a strong commitment to community service and social justice with a record of proven leadership abilities.
The Community Service Scholars program provides an opportunity for students to expand and create service initiatives that meet real community needs and learn from personal experiences, deepening their personal and academic knowledge. This program combines practical experience, ongoing training and reflection activities, mentorship and opportunities to collaborate with other student leaders on community service projects. The needs and interests of both community agencies and the students are taken into account in identifying suitable placements and group activities for development.
Up to twenty Community Service Scholars are selected annually to join the program. Students are selected during their senior year in high school and join the program during their first semester at Tulane. Students who are accepted into the Community Service Scholars Program are eligible to receive four years (eight semesters) of scholarship and program support. Scholars receiving the Community Service Scholarship may also receive other
scholarships, grants, or other forms of financial aid to cover the total cost of education while enrolled at Tulane University. The Community Service Scholarship is only available to incoming freshmen students.
